Musicians and Covid Promote and Market your Band with Plenty of Gigs 2021
Covid lock down has hit us hard especially if you are a musician! So there is one thing that you as a musician have in common with other artists, and that is, the desire to sell more music, and let people know that you exist! This need has become even stronger due to the fact, not because of other rival competition but because the birth of the internet has created serious problems concerning file sharing. And covid lock down only made things worse for us!
The World Web although it has been a productive tool for many a business, but sadly it has devastatingly ruined the music business.
This means that you as a musician who need to survive on doing gigs or trying to sell more music in 2021, need to keep one step ahead of the game and know what is happening around you and on the music scene especially the music industry with things the way they are!
In order for your band to not only survive but attract potential fan base and get recognition you need to understand the sweet science of music marketing tool. Don’t worry about this as you are in the same position as any new business breaking out into the wide world and wanting to be seen.
A Supermarket that have just opened whether they are well known or not, still need to let the public know that they are in business and are ready to receive customers. Otherwise, they are relying on people driving past and just happening to see them on the off chance. No business can survive on pot luck chances it is just too risky. You and your band is no different. Just turning up and singing at venues taking pot luck chances as to who turn up will give you and your group a short shelf life!
I have worked with bands like you who just about survived on turning up at gigs usually booked by their manager, and would wait for weeks or sometimes months before they were booked again to do another show! This is awful especially when bills need paying and the landlord wants his or her rent for the month!
This is no way to promote yourself or group, and usually other members get bored just waiting to make it happen, and thus end up leaving for another band who is doing much better. Sorry but musicians will play in as many as three different groups sampling the menu as to whom can deliver the best results!
You must view your band as a worthy business which means that following the same principles regarding
- Advertising
- Press Release
- Radio Play
- Branding
- Merchandising]
- Copyrighting etc…
However, if you ever watched the entrepreneurial program, ‘The Dragons’s Den’ you will know that it does not matter how good your product or music is, you will need to have a history of either making people know you exist, and thus generating enough long term interest. Don’t turn up at gigs without thinking of business and leaving behind some kind of calling card. Because you are a travelling business!
Secondly, you cannot be a successful band just by using the media to your advantage. Although #YouTube #Facebook #Twitter are used by many a musicians, it is not enough especially where local promotion is your bread and butter. (Read that line again)
You are uploading music onto YouTube in desperate hopes that something will come of it. The truth is, your bread and butter is those who pay to hear you sing live! They are flesh and blood real to touch, and you have built something tangible with them which you don’t get on social media! They are paying your bills! Most people on the internet want your music for free don’t do it!
So you need to get out and sing by doing loads of gigs meeting new fans and leaving behind your email anything just as long as there is going to be some boomerang effect going on. Please note that this does not mean that you sing for free! No business gives away freebies another blog I will have to write as too many musicians are exploited in this way!
